About us
Barry has 28 years’ experience within the commercial property sector with a specific emphasis on Convenience Food Stores, High Street Retail, Shopping Centres, Leisure and Roadside Developments. Prior to forming PM Commercial in January 2021, Barry was one of the founding Partners of Rowley Hughes Thompson LLP in December 2003. Barry was elected to the RICS in 1995 and holds a degree in Estate Management.
Living in and based in Bristol, Barry acts for occupiers and property owners throughout the Midlands Region, South Wales, South Coast, South West. More recently he advised on a retained regional basis for The VET and Nisbets plc on their retail expansion plans. In 2017 he disposed of 22 former M Local/ My Local sites following the administration of My Local where the leasehold properties were returned to WM Morrison Supermarkets plc.
He has been fully retained by Sainsbury’s Supermarkets plc since 2012 acquiring sites for their Sainsbury’s Local and their smaller supermarket formats on a regional basis, advising on conversions/acquisition of surplus land with public houses, town/city centre locations, local centres, neighbourhood parades and development sites.
Barry is married with two children and outside of work he helps coach Old Bristolian’s U13 Rugby Football Club. He enjoys watching sport and is a keen road and mountain biker who can been seen regularly in the various cafés and local hostelries around where he lives.
Russ’ career in the Commercial Property commenced in 1993 and since qualifying in 1995, he has worked with two large corporate practices, before spending 13 years as an owning partner of niche retail and leisure property agents, Rowley Hughes Thompson and most recently, M&P Property Consultants.
In 1996, Russ moved to London with international property consultants, Donaldsons, where he worked for five years, before returning to Bristol with his then young family. Russ spent seven further years at Donaldsons, in Bristol, as head of South West Retail, looking after High Street and leisure agency, shopping centre leasing and the shopping centre management teams. His focus including retail asset management and development initiatives, retail and leisure acquisition projects and property disposals.
As partner at Rowley Hughes Thompson, Russ continued to work with a variety of private and institutional clients, representing both occupiers and Landlords of High Streets and shopping centres, in disposals, acquisitions and a variety of L&T matters such as rent review and lease renewal consultancy. He continues to work in the leisure sector, acquiring or letting restaurants, pubs, bars, and cinemas. Russ has also spent several years working on student housing projects, concluded a number of investment sales and purchases, from local shops with vacant possession to shopping centres and regularly acts as a consultant to clients seeking to purchase shopping centre assets.
Russ spends much of his spare time keeping fit, socialising, watching his three sons play sport, playing golf and if time allows, fly fishing.
